Veterinary Assistance Programs

We have done our best to compile as many financial aid assistance programs as possible (locally and nationally). In theory, these programs will accept applications for rabbits and other smalls (we have attempted to verify all programs, but not all responded back).

Requirements and eligibility may change. It is your responsibility to check all requirements are suitable to your financial situation.

PLEASE NOTE: We are not affiliated with any of the programs below. If you choose to apply or reach out to any of the organizations below, you acknowledge that the Bun Chia Burrow is not responsible for the information shared, nor are we responsible if your financial aid request is declined.

Grant Applications (Urgent + Non-Urgent)

  • If you live in Southern California and a veterinarian in the practice is a member of the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association:

Angel Fund grants are provided through veterinarians who are participating Southern California Veterinary Medical Association (SCVMA) members and who are also enrolled in the Angel Fund Program. Because funds are limited for each hospital, most participating veterinarians limit Angel Fund Grants to existing clients. To enroll in the Angel Fund Program or to apply for a grant, YOUR VETERINARIAN should contact the SCVMA.

The veterinarians are not obligated to apply for a grant. It is totally their own decision and, frequently, they reserve their appointed funds for existing clients.

If you are a resident of Southern California we suggest you contact your veterinarian to find out if someone in the practice is a member of the SCVMA and if they are enrolled in the Angel Fund Program. If so, you may qualify for an Angel Fund Grant.

Remember that, the veterinarian must take the first step by applying for a grant by contacting the SCVMA.

Click here to find out if your veterinarian is a member of the SCVMA.

  • Bond’s Fund, managed by Frankie’s Friends, provides grants to assist with the cost of specialty eye care for pets whose families cannot afford the full cost of treatment. Financial support may be given to families who demonstrate requisite financial need and whose pets would have a good prognosis for long-term recovery to a normal quality of life.

Bond’s Fund financial assistance is used specifically for the treatment of ophthalmic conditions, and does not cover primary or preventative care, diagnostic testing, the initial exam, or ongoing monthly medications.

Frankie's Friends does not reimburse for payments already made and will not consider reimbursement situations of any kind. All payments are made directly to the treating veterinarian and never to an individual.

If you are interested in applying for assistance from Bond’s Fund, you will need to have your pet seen and assessed by a licensed veterinary ophthalmologist. To find a licensed veterinary ophthalmologist in your area, click here.

  • Senior citizens (65+) and disabled persons residing in the Los Angeles or Orange County California areas may be eligible for veterinary service support.

Veterinarians must take the first step in applying for a grant or enrolling in the Boyston Senior Fund Program. Veterinarians who are members of the SCVMA, they should contact the SCVMA directly. Veterinarians who are not members of SCVMA should contact the Animal Health Foundation.

  • Frankie’s Friends Fund provides financial assistance grants to family owned pets in need of lifesaving emergency or specialty veterinary care whose caregivers cannot afford the full cost of treatment. This program is designed to help with the treatment of emergency and specialty medical conditions where the pet would otherwise suffer, be euthanized, or relinquished without proper veterinary care.

If your pet is in need of immediate care, where any delay will put the animal at risk, it is your responsibility and duty to seek care for the pet immediately. There is no guarantee that the fund will provide financial assistance so please do not delay care for your pet while waiting for a response on your application. Grants are not guaranteed, and will not exceed $2000.00 per pet, per household. Due to the large volume of applications we receive, the program is unable to help everyone who applies.

Frankie's Friends does not reimburse for payments already made and will not consider reimbursement situations of any kind. All payments are made directly to the treating veterinarian and never to an individual.

  • Friends & Vets Helping Pets is is here to help during this difficult time.  Grants are made to individuals and families whose ability to pay is extremely limited, but also to those of somewhat more substantial means, up to 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, who may only need minor subsidy to meet the veterinary expenses. Financial aid is intended as a supplement to family resources.  All applicants must be prepared to show financial need.

Friends & Vets Helping Pets strives to help as many families as possible funds. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and receive no state or federal funding.  We are completely dependent on private and corporate contributions and grants to provide lifesaving veterinary care to sick and injured pets. 100% OF PUBLIC CONTRIBUTIONS GO TO HELP SICK AND INJURED PETS WITH LIFESAVING VETERINARY TREATMENTS. Since we have limited funds, not all applicants will receive a grant. Our board is made up of animal lovers and we understand the emotions involved in situations such as these. We are here to help, listen, and to answer any questions you have.

Friends & Vets Helping Pets funds treatments for curable (lifesaving, not life-prolong) diseases such as tumors, broken bones, ambulatory care, expensive medication, or post-surgical prosthetics such as a K-9 cart.

Friends & Vets Helping Pets does not fund routine vet care, diagnostics like ultrasound and MRI tests or preventative measures. We work on a pre-approval basis and do not fund treatments that have already occurred.

  • *****Veterinary care subsidies are for urgent or life-threatening emergencies only****

Pet Assistance, Inc. financially helps solely with independent, privately owned hospitals or low-cost hospitals.

We do not financially help with emergency hospitals, “chains,” franchises, veterinary school hospitals, or corporate-owned specialty hospitals because of their exorbitant charges.

Exceptions may be made only when, in our opinion, a specialist is really needed. PAI has very limited funds and does not help with overpriced procedures.   If we do help, our grants are between $100- $350.

PAi cannot financially help with a pet's care unless the owner can contribute. PAi financially helps longtime pet owners who have always cared for their pet, yet find they cannot afford an emergency problem.

PAi cannot financially help with new or recently acquired pets. We can offer advice and direction.

Grants are made based on urgency, prognosis, and financial need. The owner must contribute to their pet's treatment or surgery.

We need a written estimate from the veterinarian. If the cost is higher than the norm for the procedure  we cannot help.

PAi does NOT help with unnecessary blood work, routine care, costly diagnostics (MRIs, CT scans, etc.) or ongoing illness.

We do not financially help once a procedure has been done.

  • The following application for individuals seeking funding from The Pet Fund is now available online only. To begin your application, please read over the following information carefully.

    • ALL applicants are REQUIRED to email The Pet Fund a description of your animal’s medical needs. Send your email, including a phone number where you can be reached, to info@thepetfund.com. Staff will inform all applicants about both the current wait list time and the eligibility requirements for applying for financial assistance. The Pet Fund receives hundreds of requests for assistance per day, and it may take our volunteer staff some time to respond to each email request. Applications which are sent in before applicants have been advised by our staff will not be processed.

Please note – we are not able to fund emergencies. The Pet Fund ONLY funds non-basic, non-urgent care. This includes medical care that is above and beyond basic care, but which does not require urgent treatment. Unfortunately we have a chronic wait list for funding, due to the large number of applicants to our fund. IF YOU ARE HAVING AN EMERGENCY, STOP HERE - THE PET FUND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HELP. PLEASE REFER TO THE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND ADDITIONAL LINKS FOR HELP PAGES OF THE PET FUND WEBSITE FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDING RESOURCES.

  • RedRover Relief Urgent Care provides financial assistance grants and resources so pet caregivers can care for animals who need urgent veterinary care. Grants are intended to fill a small gap in funding that is keeping an animal from care. The typical grant is around $250. Due to the large volume of applications we receive, the program is unable to help everyone who applies. Before applying, you must have a clear diagnosis and specific treatment plan in place from a veterinarian.
